What a ridiculous thing for them to put on a monitor!

A monitor will work with any operating system, the only thing that matters is if it has the correct plug to plug into your graphics card (VGA or DVI)
Chuck - it seems to be common practice mate. When I bought a new Samsung monitor from Amazon late last year, there was a huge (and I mean massive) glossy colour sticker put on the box saying it's compatible with Windows 7.

I honestly think they just put the stickers on there to make the boxes look "better".

Thank you both: it is what I suspected.
