Windows XP Media Center Edition

I have recentley bought a pc with MCE with the intention of replacing an old pc and a tv at the same time,the only thing is that sometimes the tv works and sometimes not (mostly not) is there a problem with the pc or is this a common thing, and can anything be done to make it work on a regular basis.
