Smartphone App

On my laptop I have a little program called Corel Friends & family, it is basically a calendar that will remind you of up and coming events for however many days in advance that you chose, it reminds you every time you boot up.
What I want to know is if there is an App for the Android system that will do the same thing
every time the phone is turned on, I know there are plenty of calendars to install but most of them only remind you on the day of the event & not before which of course gives you no chance of posting a birthday card Etc.
