From I Tunes to Mobile

Morning People
How do i transfer a song from I Tunes onto my mobile as a ringtone. I have a mac, please treat me as a complete novice as i am computer illiterate so step by step instructions would be ideal. I thank anyone in advance that can help.

if you have got i life, you can do it in garageband, there is a choice in there called iphone ringtone

It's easy enough to create a ringtone using Garageband. The question is how to get it onto your Nokia. What model do you have?
By the way you do have iLife, it's the name Apple use for Garageband, iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb and iDVD as a package. You can't buy them separately

Milvus, i am so sorry but iv given you the wrong model number of my Nokia. Its the 6600 fold not 6700. I do apologies for wasting your time

Part 1 Rosiew. Open Garageband, Choose new project, Loops. On the next window give it a name and Choose.
It will return to the Garageband screen, Click the music icon bottom right and Choose iTunes from list, Find your track and drag it to the centre window. Once it has converted drag the brown track to the left as far as it can go. Press the play button at the bottom to preview the track. Choose where you want to start your ringtone and position the red line over that point, go to edit/split track. Choose where you want to stop and split the track again (Aim for about 30/40 secs for a ringtone).
Edit/ delete the parts you have split off. Drag your chosen section back to left as far as it will go (The numbers above the trachea should be 2,3,4 etc). Go to Share on the top menu and choose send ringtone to iTunes.
Now go to your iTunes library (Finder/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/Ringtones and find your track. Drag it to the desktop. The file will be labelled yourname.m4r. Change m4r to .mp3. Double click to make sure it plays.
Get this done then we'll get it on your Nokia

Iv done the the tune to desktop (although i cannot get it right from the start) but im stuck on changing the m4r to mp3 and cannot find anywhere that says it, help!!!!!. Thanks soooo much for helping

Select the icon on your desktop with 1 click. Then click the filename underneath the icon once. It will turn into a white background rectangle. You can then rename it. Just change the .m4r letters to .mp3. Click anywhere on the screen to complete the name change

The 6600 is sadly not the easiest phone to transfer ringtones to, I have discovered. So there is a bit of a path yet to cover. The first is that the 6600 doesn't accept mp3's as a ringtone, only files with .wav or .midi file types, so you have to convert the file (easy enough). But before that, do you have your phone set up for email? This is the easiest way to transfer the file. If not then bluetooth is the next method. What mac do you have?

Next phase we need to convert the song from mp3 to .wav so your Nokia can play it. These needs a bit of software to do it but it's free. Go here http://www.nch.com.au...qKpnKcCFQUTfAod6DTqcA
About 8 lines down there is a link for the free version. Click to download. It will download a.zip file to your downloads folder. Double click the .zip file and it will unpack to a .dmg install file. Double click this and it will create the installable programme. Drag this from the to your Applications folder. Trash the .zip and .dmg file. Open the application (called Switch). Drag your music file to the main Switch window and drop.
At the bottom left there is a drop down menu Output format. Set this to .wav. Click the Convert icon. You now have a ringtone file we can put on the Nokia with a bit of luck. I'll post this next

Milvus, it would have been simpler if i cud have got Boris Gardiner to come to my house and record it onto my phone. It make take me a while to do part 2 and it should be fun, i will check back with you once i have done(mmm) it. You are very patient

Next job is to pair your phone to the mac using bluetooth. On your mac go to System Preferences / Bluetooth and click the On button. Do the same on your phone. On the mac click Discoverable, do the same on your phone if it doesn't automatically make itself discoverable. On the mac click the + sign bottom left, this will bring up the bluetooth setup assistant. It will search for and find your phone if it is discoverable. Highlight your phone name on the mac and click continue, the mac will then give a longish number and send the same to your phone. On your phone accept the pairing. Now this doesn't work on all phones, I have just tried it on my work phone and it failed (a Palm Pre) yet it works on my daughter's phone, a Samsung. So try it out and see how it goes
