new to android phone, need help

just bought the orange san francisco phone with android stuff on PAYG, upgrading from a phone that couldnt even take pictures. would i be right in thinking that i would be unable to set up an existing email account on the phone, unless I had purchased the internet allowance for the phone? it wouldnt do it when i tried earlier and im guessing it was because it couldnt go online to verify the username and password it requested for my existing email account. i have no children to ask!

Yes you do need Internet access to setup a mail account, it has got wireless on that phone so if you have a wireless router at home you can connect it to the Internet through that and then it won't cost you anything.
