hi. I assume you have a ME disk plus disks for anty other programs you may have installed yourself.

If so..delete all programs that will delete in "all programs" list. Then go to the "add/remove" programs in control panel and delete what you can from there. Then right click the start button and choose "explore" and open up C drive and delete what you can from there... and when you can go no further...Right click "my computer" icon and select C drive. Right click C drive and select  "format"...follow instructions.

This will give you a clean install of ME

You will then have a clean re-install

caramba, Can these instructions also apply for 98SE?

Apologies for butting in cyrilbiker, but I'm also thinking of giving my sytem an overhaul too.

If you have the original CD for ME or 98SE, you should just be able to place this in the CD-ROM, reboot and it will prompt you for installing it again.  In the install, you will have an option to format your hard drive which will wipe everything and give you a clean install.  Note, you will need to have your CD-ROM enabled as a boot device in the BIOS.
yes it can setti.. I used to format 98 on a regular basis but make sure your bios looks at CD drive first or Floppy drive first depending on what you have available.
