i have a genuine copy of win XP, but my actual disk has been damaged and wont install

can i load up someone elses copy of XP - but activate it with my own genuine pass code?

or is each disc for use with only one single passccode?

I don't think it would work and in any event would be in breach of copyright.
Possibly.

There are retail and OEM disks and code numbers, any OEM code will work with any OEM disk and any retail code will work with any retail disk but you can't activate an OEM disk with a retail code or vice versa.

It's not a breach of copyright, the sticker with the code on it is the license, if you have that sticker then you can install from any CD of the correct type.

Even Microsoft suggest borrowing a CD and using it with the code stuck to the computer in certain situations.
