mp3 player

id like to purchase an mp3 or i pod..they sound like a good thing for the holidays...id like one that would take at least 200 songs ..preferably a lot more...has to be easy to work..and cheap to buy..anyone know of one that will suit my needs?..oh son says it should have a screen..cheers

In my humble opinion you should buy a Creative Zen Touch 20Gb mp3 jukebox, which holds 5,000 tracks..  I had one for Christmas and have to say it is superb.  Why pay �99.99 for a 1Gb type from Currys when for another �60-70 you can have 20 times that capacity?

iPod's seem to be well overpriced as some of the 5Gb models are the same price as a Zen Touch. I've not had personal experience of an iPod but the problems with them and battery life are well documented(via a Google search).

There are quite a few new toys out there. Personally I think that something approaching �200 for a glorified walkman is too expensive, unless money isn't so much of an issue.

There are personal CD players which will play audio CDs and also (data) CDs of mp3's for under �40. CDs hold 700MB which should be fine for over 200 songs - especially if you have a few CDs with you.

If you already have a digital camera with (important bit) an "SD" memory card, then you could opt for something like this:

That has built in memory (comes in 128MB, 256MB etc.) and in addition you can use your camera's memory card to store more mp3's on to increase the capacity. Most cameras use "CompactFlash/CF" but I've yet to see an mp3 player which accepts this - only SD.

Or there's the equivalent of the ipod mentioned already. Everyone I know who has one of these raves about them and says that they now couldn't be without it.

Think about going for one with flash memory, no moving parts so less likely to fail or skip, cheaper, lighter, and uses less power generally, and you can use it as a pendrive in most cases. They won't hold as many songs as a hard drive player (typically about 250 as opposed to 5000). Wouldn't go for an iPod, as you have to send them back to Apple if the battery needs replacing, and they're overpriced.
