neti....as you realise, I know "bu99er all" about computers, but since changing to Google Chrome about 16months ago, I have had smooth service.

Well how do I do that then? I thought that just let you look at the streets and the ocean!
neti.....bang in Google Chrome.....click search....follow the instructions to download.
It's pretty simple to swap browsers, when you want to look at a web page you click on the icon for IE instead of the icon for firefox.
Do you have the latest version of Firefox installed? It's quite a stable browser when compared to IE. Less prone to hacks and less resource hungry. What are the symptoms of your problems with Firefox? Other abers might be able to advise.

It just crashes literally every couple of seconds, (it's behaving now) and the web page says it is happening to lots of firefox users, and they are looking into it. I've re-installed it twice already. Advice please?
What web page says it's happening to lots of users?

Have you tried disabling all your add ons for firefox as it's more often those that cause the problem rather than firefox itself.
//less resource hungry//

Not sure about that TTG - it is a bit bloated. Almost as bad a IE these days for loading speed.

I'd also recommend the even-more-open-source-than-chrome "Iron" (which is based on chrome)

Although I would first suggest looking at weather your machine needs a clean recovery as it sounds like firefox is not a problem, it is just struggling to run!

Anyway to move back to IE, uninstall firefox, then go to start/control panel/add remove programs/windows components tab/re-check IE/ click next and finish. Then update IE.

This is of course assuming that you uninstalled IE after installing firefox. You should only really ahve one browser installed at any one time.

Why?
They are completely different programs, have as many browsers on your machine as you want - only one of them can be set to be the default.

Billyrain, even Mozilla know there is a problem and are trying to sort it, but I want to change until I can use it properly. Having said that, it is OK at the moment! It literally crashed 6 x already this am. I rebooted computer 3x and now seems OK.
I have had both IE and Firefox installed for 18 months with no problems - hardly use IE, however.
and FF4 will be out very shortly... (about time too)

How do I disable add ons (sorry I'm such a twit!)
Net you can just download IE and put the icon on your desktop, You might try Google chrome or Opera in fact you can download them all. Put them on your desktop and then choose anyone you wish to use. No conflict no pain.

Have just disabled several add-ons that I found, I have left AVG alone

Thanks davethedog, that sounds painless, will try!
IE is part of the OpSystem - dont think it can be deleted
