Duracell

Duracell is one of the world’s number one brands for batteries. They produce two main types of batteries alkaline and rechargeable. Alkaline are suitable for most everyday uses for example toys, remote controls, cameras and other portable electrical items. Also manufactured are specialty batteries for cameras, watches and hearing aids.

Duracell originated via the partnership of scientist Samuel Ruben and businessman Philip Rogers Mallory, who met during the 1920s. In 1974, the term "Duracell" was formally introduced as a brand. The name is a portmanteau for "durable cell."

Duracell have introduced a colour coding system on the batteries and packaging to make it easier for customers to remember which size battery they need. AA is yellow, AAA is green, GV is blue, C is red and D is purple.

Duracell batteries are manufactured by Proctor and Gamble one of the most profitable companies in the world. The company also has divisions covering Beauty Care, Baby Care, Fabric and Home Care, Health Care, Snacks, Coffee and Pet Care. Other well known brands produced by Proctor and Gamble are Ariel, Gillette, Olay, Pampers, Pringles and Wella.

Procter & Gamble produced and sponsored the first radio soap operas in the 1930s. This was probably the genesis of the term "soap opera" due to the company being known for detergents (soaps).
