With Windows 7, Microsoft hopes to put the bad press from Vista behind it. Windows 7 smoothes out a number of Vista annoyances and makes the interface cleaner and easier to work with overall (for example, the new taskbar uses one icon per open application instead of accumulating individual buttons for each window).

It's slightly faster than Vista, too, reversing the trend of software upgrades yielding performance downgrades.
