Windows Defender is an anti-spyware product from Microsoft to prevent, remove and quarantine spyware in Microsoft Windows. It is included and enabled by default in Windows Vista and Windows 7, and is available as a free download for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

Windows Defender is able to scan common areas within the Microsoft operating system where security changes may be initiated by spyware. Windows Defender is able to identify these incidents of spyware infection and remove them swiftly, ensuring that your computer remains protected from keyloggers and spam adverts.

Also integrated into Windows Defender is SpyNet, a tool that allows users to report to Microsoft what they consider to be spyware. This allows Microsoft to produce a list of recommended and unsafe applications and drivers that can be stopped before they infect a computer.
