Kyrenia's very pretty, with restaurants around the harbour. We stayed at the Onar Village Hotel. You can do daytrips into the hills to see crusader castles, or cross over into the south in Nicolsia.
I agree Kyrenia. We stayed at the Bellapais Monastery Village Hotel. Up in the hills just a short hop from Kyrenia itself. A main hotel building but also mini villas in the grounds. The best holiday ever.
Pat.
Just bear in mind that there are no direct flights from the U.K. To Northern Cyprus so you either fly UK to Turkey then to Northern Cyprus ( unrecognised airport) or you fly U. K. To Larnaca then cross the border, if you are happy with that then weather good for your dates and Kyrenia best pace to stay.
It's ten years since I went - and I fear the pace of uncontrolled development will have ruined the beautiful coastline and archaeological sites. There seem to be loads of resorts, private villas for hire, cheap car hire - and they drive same side as us so hiring a car is an easy option. I agree that the pretty side of the north is the Kyrenia / Bellapais area and eastwards along the coast to the 'panhandle'. We got a villa (well called a villa, but a semi really!) with a private pool for the few houses in the development, it was excellent value and the people were lovely.

Thanks to all so far. Sounds like I'd better book!
I was there about 15 years ago and again three years ago. The south had become heavily built up around resorts but the north hadn't changed much at all. Things may be different now, I don't know.
