Moving To Egypt

Not sure if this is the right category but here goes! My friend went to Egypt a couple of years ago and met a man. She has been back several times and they are wanting to get married. She is thinking of living over there for 6 months of the year and living (and working) over here for the other 6 months. Obviously she has lots of questions about doing this but I don't know the answers. Can anyone point us in the right direction to get answers regarding the NHS (for when she's over here) and medical insurance (for when she's over there)There is also the question about if she wanted to bring him over here after they are married. Can anyone help please?

I'd be cautious about bringing him here - the immigration services might suspect that the bloke married her just to get into the UK.

The culture, as Murray says, is something definitely to be considered and taken on board (as it would be in moving to any Arab country).

Google 'expat insurance' for details of health cover for your friend while in Egypt.

Your friend would continue to be covered by the NHS when in the UK.

Her partner would also be covered if he became 'normally resident' in the UK. If he was only visiting temporarily he'd be eligible for free GP treatment for up to 3 months but not for most hospital treatments:

She will have Income Tax issues as well as N.I. contribution issues, depending on if the work she does for the 6 months she's in the uk is self-employed or as an Employee on P.A.Y.E

Has she got a good Bank Balance?
Does she own her own house / Car?
Is she due any inheritance?
Has she read, looked up the story's of British Women marrying Egyptian Men.
Advise her to re-think, once that ring is on her finger, thats another one that's going to get her heart broken in more ways than one.

my friends daughter fell for an Egyptian masseur at Sharm el Sheik and went back several times to see him, even my friend was all giggly and saying when she gets married she will be Mrs EL **** and I will be his mother in law, stupid pair, having lived in Dubai I was very wary but they laughed at me, so I challenged them go when he is not expecting you ... they did only to find he has a wife & 2 children and his mother all living in two rooms, would have been wife no 2 and expected to do all the housework & cooking and their passport to a new life in the new UK. Be warned.
