These are currently the top 10 UK destinations according to TripAdvisor:

1. London
2. Edinburgh
3. Torquay
4. Liverpool
5. Belfast
6. York
7. Bristol
8. Llandudno
9. Leeds
10. Birmingham

There will be differences of opinion but some interesting choices.
Have visited 5 of the above, Llandudno is the smallest but probably the nicest resort on the North Wales coast.

Originally from No 6 - visited 1,2,4,8 (frequently),9 &10.
If anyone visits 8 - watch you don't drop litter - on the spot £75 fine - ask my gf!!

Hi WY !
On the spot Fines like that spoil your day.
The Seagulls can be a menace as well !

One took G's 99 a few months ago on the prom and when we were there on Sunday afternoon, another woman got her taken by a gull - came at her like a Stuka out of the sun!!
I've been to 1, 5 and 3. Not very well travelled...
Anyone going to York on a short trip try the Queens Hotel on Queens Staith. Great location just 2 minutes - literally - from the city centre, right on the river and a reasonable rate

Visited Brighton for the first time last Year, rather surprised that it has not made the list as I thought it was rather nice.
We don't get a mention.

Ponky London is number 1?

Really?
I like Brighton...

London gets 3rd in Top 10 of Global destinations as well, JJ !!

Top 10 global destinations:

1. Istanbul
2. Rome
3. London
4. Beijing
5. Prague
6. Marrakech
7. Paris
8. Hanoi, Vietnam
9. Siem Reap, Cambodia
Wonder what it's based on? vast areas of most of those listed are sprawling and ugly (don't know York or Belfast).
I just hate all cities!!! horrible busy, bustling places full of stinking cars and people rushing around and queues etc. I really try to stay away from them!!
Me too Ratter, every time I go to London I think at least half the population are completely mad.
these are presumably not the places with the biggest number of visitors but the places people like most when they get there.

Obviously Brighton is just Llandudno without the charm.

Currently living in one of the Cities listed in the Top 10.
Have lived by the Sea and in the Country, but very happy to be where I am now.
Family-in-Law live in London so must visit them now and then.
It's a rat race down there, too big and impersonal
Where is NYC in the top ten global??? Very surprised its not there.
Question Author
It has fallen from grace pasta !
Rather surprising
I can't see why Torquay is number 3. It's quite nice, but nothing special IMHO. Definitely not better than York or Bristol.
I can't believe Canterbury isn't on the list. Llandudno must have changed since I was last there when it was a bit quaint in a Welsh way, bleak, usually wet and apart from the pier and Great Orme not much else going for it.
Question Author
Another surprising exclusion from the UK List is Chester.
Really nice City on the River Dee
