Could you not have a pair of socks in your bag that you can slip on when you take your shoes off?
You should be ok wearing socks, but you must take your shoes off. Also, in some places you have to take your shoes off before you go in their shops, restaurants, homes.
This is especially true on many of the islands. It was odd to see all the shoes left outside, often misplaced mine because I went in one door and went out another :)
Hi!

I have been to Thailand 2 years ago (for an entire month).
I don't like going shoe less but unfortunately I had to deal with it.
Temples are holy and you should respect that.
I guess you'll have to make an effort if you want to see them (and trust me-some of them are so beautiful, that you'd want to see them).
I found this Thailand travel guide that might find answers to more questions you were looking for!
