Hi everyone, I'm going on a trip to Rome for a few days in December and wondered if anyone could please tell me what it's like there at that time of year. What's the weather like and are there any special events on? I've never been to Italy before and am really looking forward to it. Any help or advice would be appreciated :-) Thanks

I was there in November a few years ago. It was very pleasant, sunny and mild - chilly in the shade / evenings ie such as you would not want to sit out in without woollies on. The shops seemed to be gearing up for Christmas so I expect you will see Christmas dispays.

Thankyou very much :-) I know what to pack now! I'm expecting it to be pretty hectic, but I bet it will look amazing with the decorations etc.

You might find the 'Rome in 48/96 Hours' and the 'Events in Rome' links, on the official tourism website, useful:

To get around, use 'BIG' or 'BTI' tickets. The BIG ('Biglietto Integrato Gionaliero') costs just 4 and gives you unlimited travel on the buses and the Metro for an entire day.

The BTI ('Biglietto Turistico Integrato') costs 11 and is valid for three days.

Thankyou very much :-) some very useful information there.
If you have never been before you will love it ... much better than going in the Summer as I did a few years ago and nearly died of heat exhaustion as was 120 degrees in the shade ... this will be much more pleasant ............... and a little quieter I would think..... off the via condotti there is an interaction experience called the TIME ELEVATOR (it has a website if you google it) and it takes you through the history of the city and is really worth seeing. Be careful if taking a horse carriage ride .... extremely expensive some of them charge 200!!!!

Thanks for the information :-) I'll check that out. I'm glad I'm not going in the summer then because I can't handle the heat and I burn really easily!
