Hotel Rome

We are looking for a decent hotel in Rome to take a party of 14 which is in a good position but not too expensive. I have researched on Trip Advisor but all good central hotels are very pricey! Does anyone know of a good one on the outskirts with good transport (possibly on the sight seeing hop on - hopp off bus route) and with a decent restaurant nearby. Never been to Rome before, so any good tips would be appreciated. Going end of Nov.

Rome is expensive full stop, but a wonderful city to visit and see.

I stayed in a hotel called La Gambina in Rome last year. It was just on the outskirts and was very nice. I think it was about 62 Euros a night? I think we got it through Expedia.

Most of Rome is walkable and taxi's are a good price and easy to get...there is also the sightseeing buses.

If youw ant to go to the Vatican then book the early trip which goes round before it opens. Its a bit extra but its worth it. The Vatican itself doesnt open till about 10-10.30 and people queued for over two hours to get in. If you go on the special trip you can go round when its quiet.
