money to Australia?

oh, puzzled by some answers on here..sent a couple of Xmas cards to nephews in Australia, both had a Au$20 note taped inside, it was the post office clerk who offered me the tape to do this, and didnt say anything about Australia not allowing money to be sent in to the country...haven't heard from kids (they're 11 and 8) so would they have got their cash?

Well the clerk was wrong - whether he didn't look it up or was ignoring or didn't know the rules I can't tell. Australia definitely does not permit cash to be imported through the mail. Whether it's a customs rule or an Australian Mail rule I've no idea.

Having said that I've done it for years and the cash has always arrived. Your nephews would have had to be extremely unlucky not to get it.

There's probably a greater risk with a parcel/packet which customs might open rather than a letter/card which they wouldn't bother with.

nobody says Thank You any more, so it can be hard to tell. Perhaps you could ask their parents?

My kids say thank you because I make them do so. I think it's rude to receive a gift and not say thank you. In this day and age of texting and email it is very easy to do so. They can even send the same email to everybody (not ideal but better than nothing).
