Cordoba, Spain

We are planning a trip to Granada and thought we might go to Cordoba too. Not driving, going by train and bus in Spain. Any one got any tips. What , or what NOT, to see and do perhaps? Will we be missing something fantastic if we don't go to Cordoba - apart from the Mosque? Would love to hear your views. Many thanks.

Sorry, I've not been to Cordoba but here are just a few pointers to get you started in your quest for information:

Train services between Granada and Cordoba are very limited, with just two direct trains per day. (One morning service and one evening one. Journey time = approx 2 hours 20 minutes). At other times you'd have a two-train journey, totalling between 4 and 5 hours.

On one of the rare days when RENFE's website is actually working, you might be able to check train times here:

However Die Bahn's website is far more reliable. (It can plan any rail journey in Europe for you, including those across national borders):

There are 8 direct bus journeys per day between Granada and Cordoba. Most journeys take around 2 hours 40 minutes. The single fare is €12.60. (€22.73 return):

It all depends on what you're into, but there is the old palace and beynd that the ancient ruins of the late Roman settlement. The old town of Cordoba is lovely and its worth just absorbing the atmosphere on a slow shady walk and a bite to eat. If you are into ancient technology you can walk by the river and see the footings of the huge undershot waterwheels that powered the corn mills in the Arab period. But don't underestimate the time you might spend in the Mosque - it is sublime. Look carefully at the carved masonry of he arches and you will see that Roman decorative architecture, even a zodiac, was recycled to make this amazing structure.
Like I say, it depends on what you're into.
