We are visiting our son in New Zealand in January, we wanted to go via Hng Kong but the prices are very expensive, it is cheaper going via Kuala Lumpar, does anyone know what it is like to do a stop over there for 3 days each side of the holiday. Thanks.

Sorry buildersmate, but the way I read it was that it was cheaper to fly via Kuala Lumpar than via Hong Kong. I just thought I would put in about my experience of flying with Finnair, who fly to New Zealand via Hong Kong, and in my opinion were a lot cheaper than other airlines.
I sorry we didn't read the question the same way, but this site is all about opinions and experiences.

true - the debate should be out total cost and overall experience.....Both KL and HK are about the same distance to Auckland once in the air 10.5 hrs..... I would go, hands down on HK first, followed by Sing.................and there are some great airline and hotle deals to be had...and season dependent, of course. Eating in HK if you like different forms of Chinese food is far, far better than the other two, and right through the price spectrum - and plenty of Euro/American outlets if you need a change........
im travelling the world currently and have just moved from Kuala Lumpar to Langkawi. KL is alright, not much to do though unless you like shopping. i would think there is alot more to do in hong kong as im going there in feb for about 10days and wouldnt think about staying in KL for anymore than 2 full days. hope this helps?
I know I am late with my input but I cant believe people say there is nothing to do. I have been several times and love it. Visit the museum the market KL tower Petronas towers take the monorail and visit the outlying areas. Go to the Orchid gardens take a look around sepang etc etc etc Plenty to do and prices are very cheap. I do agree that you need to visit the night market in China Town too it great.
