Google Maps gives the distance between South Figueroa Street (where your hotel is) and Pacific Avenue (along the Venice Beach seafront) as 17.5 miles, with a driving time of 24 minutes in free-flowing traffic or 1 hour 20 minutes in peak traffic.
Metro Rapid Line 733 operates between Downtown LA and Venice Beach (with a journey time of around an hour) but you'd need to walk to the junction with Venice Boulevard (or take a local bus service for a few minutes) to catch it.

its about 20 minutes drive to venice beach from dowtown los angeles to be honest in LA nothing is walking distance from one place to another if you are able to drive you should rent a car thats what we do when we go. Venice beach is the best beach we have ever been to there is so much to do there but you should also check out some of the more non famous beaches too redondo beach and will rogers state beach are fantastic and nice and quiet but again a car is required public transport is good but gets very busy
