Is is possible to use a provisional drivers license to travel to southern ireland (dublin) from a UK airport?

Maybe maybe not. You will have to ask your airline - they make the rules, not the government, and each one is different.

Ryanair say a valid licence with a photo - no mention of full or provisional. Easyjet just say photo id - unspecified.
not in my experience... full licence only
I would have thought a full license only!
