Why don't all aeroplanes have parachutes for all the passengers which can be used during emergencies such that the passengers can escape before the plane crashes?

for that to be a viable option, the crew would have to be sure that the aircraft was doomed early enough for any evacuation to take place. in many instancesthis realisation either comes too late, or events occur so fast that the crew is overwhelmed. so the occasions where parachutes might have been of use would be very few - off the top I can think of only 2, and in one of those the aircraft was saved by the crew.

parachures for all would also add a huge amount of weight. overall this would be an impractical safety feature.
you know the jam in the aisles when a plane lands and everyone stands up to get their bags and wait for the doors to open...

Okay, imagine the same jam when everyone is panicking, trying to put on a parachute (which they wouldn't know how because nobody ever watches the safety videos) and then climb all over each other to get to the doors first...

Sounds like a recipe for chaos to me, in which no lives would be saved at all, even if there was time to do it properly. And as mushroom says, most crashes happen too quickly.
And can you imagine the panic when everyone is told:

"please put on your parachute"

Also remember that landing on the ground with a parachute does take some training.

Can you imagine a jumbo full of people (including children and old people), none of whom have ever jumped before, jumping out of a plane, at night, over a city.

Does not bear thinking about.
Maybe they should fit ejector seats as well?
of course you'd first need a removable ceiling like a convertible car, heathfield?

I don't think a drop top aeroplane would be an easy solution, what about detachable ,larger windows?
And you'd have to depressurise the cabin

And at that hight there is little air, everyone would suffocate or be brain dead when the landed Zacsmaster.
this is a stupid question anyway
try thinking about the consequences first,
