I do have a map of France kicking around the villa somewhere. Are you looking to go down the toll roads, or would you rather a more scenic, cheaper route?
I believe the French have a fantastic high speed rail network - TGV

I would consider any, even the train. No idea how expensive that would be though

That's the one Panic Button.
I've just gone and fetched the map from the car. I love your name btw :-)

Thank you. I like yours too , are you a dominatrix?
I could be ! lol
my parents live in perpignan, and a reasonable route (avoiding paris) is a16 via boulogne to abbeville, a28 to rouen, a13/n154 via evreux & dreux to orleans, a10/a71 to clermont-ferrand, a75 via viaduc millau to beziers and the a9, which runs along the coast, east to montpellier & avignon, west to narbonne & spain. the a75 is toll-free, and the scenery is awesome.
The TGVs are a lovely relaxing experience - you get to see the countryside, they're clean and comfortable, and they drop you off close to town centres.
As ever for foreign train travel, best website for advice is http://www.seat61.com
