Cheap but exotic?!

Probably a bit of wishful thinking here, but next year, I'd love me and my boyfirend to go somehwhere other than the usual european places with a package holiday,  i.e. spain portugal etc. 

I'd love to go somewhere like Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba etc etc, I'm sure you get the idea - Somewhere really hot and far away!! Can anyone recommend the best place to book a holiday like this, i.e. the cheapest!! I've known people to get really good deals, like 2 weeks in cuba all incl. for �600 each!!

Jamaica is very good. we had a 2 week break in private villa sleeps 5 for � 1200 each including flights and meals etc.

If you keep an eye on the websites you can often hitch a lift on a charter flight about a month before departure. I flew (flight only) to Cancun in Mexico with My Travel for �165 return (including taxes)  for 2 weeks last November. then went overland to Belize - i found it exotic.

late deals are usually cheaper than booking far in advance, you can find late deals in travel agents, on teletext and numerous websites.

We went for 2 wks all inc for �600 each to the Dominican Republic last summer. Book as late as possible. We got a beautiful 4star hotel and had a fantastic time. There are similar deals to cuba etc so shop around, check out ceefax and leave it late.

Still food poisoning cases being reported from Dominican Republic, I read somwhere last week (sorry, can't remember the source, one of the Saturday newspaper travel pages I think). So go there with caution. Cuba's great.

If you want to feel really free and away from it all very cheaply, you want to give Thailand some serious consideration.

Don't go package, just get yourself out there (usually Bangkok) and ask a taxi driver to take you to the Ko San Road.  This is where you will find loads of backpacker hotels for about �1 per night.  Stay there for a day to get over the jet lag, then get an overnight bus (about �5)to somehwhere like Ko Pang Nahn or Ko Samui (small islands).

I've never felt so detached from the real world in all my life.  Perfect beaches, sleep in huts on the beach, cheap as anything.
