Today sees the start of a three-day visit to Britain of the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao.

His visit has been strongly criticised by some, because of China's abominable record on human rights.

Taking all this into account, is it not in Britain's interests to secures firm ties with China, since most of the goods we enjoy are 'Made in China'?

the trouble with Chinese PM visits is that just after he's gone home you immediately crave another visit!
Nice one Geezer (i'd have posted LOL but I dislike that expression).
I don't see why not, our record on Human Rights isn't so good, especially the Human Rights of the Law Abiding Majority.

Anyway, isn't it about time we topped being so 'High and Mighty' about whats happening in other countries and started putting this country on the road to recovery?.
He has pledged to support the Euro €. The badtard!
anything that promotes goodwill, sitting round a table is the only way, on trade, human rights issues and the way forward, there are many other countries around the world that have as bad a record on human rights, we didn't blink when selling them arms, Saudi Arabia for one, so lets not be too hypocritical about it. They will be the dominant force in years to come, outstripping US, so better now than in 10 years, when it would be too late. Its changing, like the rest of the world, and though i deplore their stance on human rights, think this is the right step.
