A nice seaside...

I want to go out for the day on Saturday, to a 'nice' seaside.
I've always really fancied Brighton, but wondered if anyone else had any other good suggestions.
I am quite fussy about what I want, and I'm after something 'traditional'... so no loud fun fairs or loads of pubs and clubs. I know that's quite tricky these days, but there MUST be somewhere which is nostalgic. Surely??

Oh, and it has to be on the south or south/east coast.

Gotta be Lyme Regis.... Think of the Film..French Lieutenants Woman... Quaint town... fab chippies... nice pubs for food... good sand... nice green areas's... but remember its school hols and a bank holiday weekend comming up!..Have a great day out! Mrs Crisper xx

Lyme Regis was lovely when we went, the seafront was very tastefully landscaped and there is the famous "cobb" - like a huge curved jetty out to sea, where the film The French Lieutenants woman was filmed.......... of course just remember you need good weather, as with anywhere, places look totally different in pouring rain!
Mudeford Quay and Christchurch near Bournemouth are quite nice too but personally I don't think you can beat Cornwall, especially the little coves on the Lizard Peninsula.

JJ and Boxtops, I'm not worried about the shingle. In fact, I quite like that. I'm just put off by all the pubs and clubs. I've not long moved away from all of that!

I like Brighton. Used to go there a lot as a kid on days out. I don't like the pebble beach much but the other aspects of Brighton are nice.

LOL JJ, it's seaside, needs to be done. Is the marina not good these days? I worked down there when Barratts were building the first phase of the housing.

I hate Southwold with a passion (bad memories of a school trip there - I was a teacher at the time!).

Ohhh, Lyme Regis is just over a couple of hours away, so that would be fine. I'm torn now... Lyme Regis, or stick with the original thought and head for Brighton.
Surely the clubs and pubs wouldn't be too bad during the day? Oh I don't know...

If you are in Bristol, what about Southerndown? It's on the South Wales coast and there is nothing there - just a kiosk and a brilliant beach (and nice, clean toilets). Check the tide times though. Bit further away is Tenby - my most favourite place ever.

Where's the "mumbles"?

I absolutely *love* Tenby, sherrard. In fact, I love all of West Wales. Such a beautiful part of the world.

I dunno. I just got it into my head that Brighton was lovely, so I've been focusing on that part of the map.

The Mumbles is outside Swansea - used to have a kiosk in the shape of an apple!

The Mumbles is the area just west of Swansea, flip - I spent every summer holiday there when I was a nipper.
