I meant Hardwick Hall not House - both Hardwick Hall and Kedelston Hall are in Derbyshire.
Keddleston was better when we went

Just spotted that Kedelston Hall isn't open on Fridays - Grrrr!!!
I love Hardwick and it has a super restaurant. Really interesting place as it dates back to Elizabethan days.
Well, I'd opt for Hardwick, I've never been but they have some fabulous tapestries I'd like to see (or so I am told). Have you been to Calke Abbey? That's another lovely old house.
There are both the best. I would advise seeing both of them.

At least that is what they would say, I suppose.

Do not really know as have never been to either.
Calke Abbey is also very nice, and look out for information on their website for Christmas events, they light the trees up for evening walks in the gardens

Thanks follyfancier - I like the sound of the Christmas events. that reminds me have you ever visited Rockingham Castle in Northants - they do a fantastic week every year called Victorian Christmas 21 - 25 Nov this year

Its really excellent - worth a visit.....

Just checked - Caulke Abbey not open on Fridays either!!
Chatsworth?
Question Author
Chatsworth great but been lots of times DT - thanks!
Kedleston's a grand Georgian house , and there are quite a few like it around the country. Hardwick Hall is much older and rarer, an Elizabethan mansion with as many windows as a much more modern style of house.

Never been to Chatsworth and would love to... But I'd choose Hardwick of the two you've mentioned.
