Never been to Spain and want a short break there in October. What would be a good resort or island as in introduction for a mature couple ? Thanks

The seafront has a great promenade where you can walk all along between the two towns. We went there for years - out of season, some places are shut but the locals all go there fore Sunday lunch etc and to promenade. There are big hotels and smaller places where you can rent self-catering. Taxi from the airport is abut 25 euros.
Marbella and Puerto Banus are expensive and very much further from the airport, but good for a bus trip if you want to marvel at the boats!

here's another thread about this resort, from last year http://www.theanswerb...1.html#answer-4884195
Barcelona is fantastic. Good beaches (which you will probably still be very pleasant during October), brilliant architecture, loads of history and culture, fantastic food (especially the local paella!) from hundreds of great restaurants and quiet little bars (or noisier ones if you prefer!).
It's also cheap to get to, with easyJet having flights into the wonderfully named 'El Prat' airport (which is also served by BA, Monarch and bmiBaby), and Ryanair both Girona and Reus (which are both about an hour from Barcelona on the direct bus services). Within Barcelona, there's a cheap, clean, efficient and fully-integrated public transport system, making it easy to get around.

I would vote for Barcelona also, but would stay in Sitges as it is a really nice seaside area with lots of places to eat etc. It is only a 20 min trip on the train into Barcelona and the train runs every 15 min. This will put you at several stations that have the metro connected to them so that you can get anyplace you want to in a few minutes.
