Can anyone recommend a beach holiday destination for mid January? Flying from Scotland would be ideal, but could go from England no problem. We were thinking Tenerife but the temperature then doesn't look so great, looking for a little hotter! (for a couple in their mid thirties) thanks.

Budget is all here - can you afford the Caribbean?
the temp should be in the mid 20s, remember the temperature they give you is from the coldest part of the island and a shade temperature.

Caribbean sounds pricey just by the name lol, we can spend around £1000
sharm el sheik egypt is good value with excellent sea & beaches. Sunny in january but only low 20s celsius
While the Canaries might be politically and culturally European, they're geographically North African. If, as you suggest, North Africa isn't going to be warm enough for you, then you need to go further south. The obvious choice seems to be The Gambia. January has an average daytime maximum temperature of 31C, falling to an average of 15C at night, with medium humidity and no rainy days.

Canaries are always "iffy" in Jan/Feb - we have been to Gran Canaria in Jan and had a real heatwave but another year went to Tenerife in Feb and had storms which lasted a week and it actually snowed near Mount Teide (centre of island) and blocked the main road!

Thanks for the info folks, it's looking like we will have to scrape a few more pennies together. Thats good to know about the Canaries too, thanks.
My mate goes to Goa for 3 weeks each January..........
''will have to scrape a few more pennies together''

Then consider Thailand's Southern islands...
Morocco is not as far as it sounds. And you don't have to change your watch - the time is the same. Mediterranean or atlantic beaches. Lots to do
. . . but Morocco is in North Africa, which Haggis has indicated won't be warm enough. The average daytime maximum temperature for January in Rabat is only 17C (falling to 8C at night, with 9 rainy days in the month).
I agree with Snags it would be worth scraping the skin off your knees to get to the Southern Islands.
or look at the Dominican Republic - there are lots of deals to there

Thanks a lot guys, I have been looking because we were offered an apartment in Tenerife for reasonably cheap. It does look though that to get what we are after would cost a small fortune to us.
Cape Verde?
