We will soon be taking our 7 year old grandson to London as we go regularly and he always asks to come but have been waiting until he is old enough to appreciate what he is seeing. We will take him to see Big Ben, Buckingham Palace etc. I dont want to get back and then think of somewhere we should have gone - where would you go? Also i want to take him to the O2 - which boats go there? would they also go in the other direction to cover most of the popular sites? thanks for your help.
How long are you going for? there is sooo much to see, take him on the London Eye for sure, the O2 mmm! bit young. London Zoo, & I hope you've got a substantial budget.
he always looks at the o2 at the start of eastenders and i know he does not comprehend how big it is, and that its actually like walking down a street in there although i know he wont see in the theatres etc (he knows we go there frequently for concerts too) . Also it can be reached by boat so iim thinking if we get a day card he can see lots of other sites plus get off and go in there. We wont have time for the zoo mainly seeing the sites plus he wants to go to hamleys!
oh forgot to say....he says he wont go on the eye as he does not like heights so im not sure if we will manage that one. We've been on both by day and night and i know if i manage to get him on there he will be fine.
science museum and natural history museum...anything else will be boring for a 7 year old - both of those are fantastic places to take him and educational. also the london eye - but pre-book and it can be expensive. but imo...that would be a dream day out and my son and i did that when he was 11 and we had a super day x
As Jemisa suggested London Zoo, but the Natural History Museum is free, my daughter used to love the dinosaurs and animals. There is plenty of activities as well aim at chidren. http://www.nhm.ac.uk/index.html
Battersea park zoo, the westminster greenwich riverboat trip, round london open top sightseeing bus, London Zoo is a bit expensive and there is a lot of walking between exhibits
The london Aquarium, If he likes wild life there are some great kids exhibits at the london wetland centre including 'down the plughole' don't ask...but there was a lot of laughter coming from that area last time I went,
Also I meant to add the Thames clipper service runs to the O2 you can pick it up out side the London Aquarium South side - Charing Cross pier North side and it runs all down the river, its enclosed and theres even a coffee/snack bar
Time would be a serious factor here as London is bigger than most people realise and a day is not really going to be enough time to see most things. Regarding the O2 bit, travelling by tube will be a lot quicker than using a boat (and cheaper)
My daughter was enthralled by the Docklands railway, we rode it several times and the conductor let her announce some of the stations. You can sit right in the front as there is no driver. We also loved to feed the pigeons in Trafalgar Square but I think theyt have been got rid off, shame.
the bank of england museum is amazing, free and you get to hold a gold ingot!
they do special days for children in hols so look at their website
it's easy to get to bank tube station!
we will have 2 full days there. and i do realise how time will be an issue which is why im planning it well before we go and i think a boat trip to get to o2 will be more beneficial than tube as many sites can be taken in along the way. Cost will not be an issue on this occasion. Where does the duck tour go? also i do not plan to go anywhere for lunch (such as rainforest cafe) as i feel that will waste valuable time (considering possibly going early evening?)
