the EdF Energy London Eye (as it now is)? A stroll round the V&A or British Museum or National Gallery? Open-top bus ride? Visit Westminster Abbey? There's really quite a lot of choice.

Not quite clear when you're going to the show - afternoon or evening?
Avoid the open-top bus tours at all costs - they're a total rip-off. The Eye is very popular, though I didn't find looking at miles and miles of rooftops particularly edifying. There's dozens of museums, of course, some of which you don't actually need to queue for ;-)

Difficult to be any more specific as you give no clue as to your interests...
answerbanker has said Monday night jno.

How about a river cruise down the Thames from the Houses of Parliament to Greenwich. They have bars on board and are comfortable and heated and its a lovely relaxing way to see the sites and unwind.
'sights' or is it 'sites'? Both could apply I suppose.
science museum or natural history...or Camden Market...or zoo...or just walk down the south bank by the National theatre and London eye..lots usually happening there for free !
Walking down the South Bank is a good idea - wrap up warmly though!! People watching from a cafe on the South Bank is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours.
Lofty...meet you there..get the hot chocolate and buns in !!!
I noticed that, lottie, but I wondered what she might expect to do after an evening show except go back to his hotel. Unless they want to go clubbing, London doesn't really stay open very late though there will be bars and restaurants around Shaftesbury Ave/Soho/Covent Garden.

River cruise is a good idea.

Ok some intersting ideas - we usually just do 'girly shopping' as we both like fashion and music - is there a 'celebrity- spotting' restaurant / bar we could go to which isnt mega-expensive perhaps?? we are going to the show on monday evening so we could go out after the show. thank you so far
OK Murray.

Sorry jno - I understand now.

I suggested a river cruise because it is good to do in winter rather than summer when it's crowded and it's also warm!!
> is there a 'celebrity- spotting' restaurant / bar we could go to which isnt mega-expensive

Depends on what you consider expensive, but not really. You'd almost certainly not get a table without a reservation at somewhere like The Ivy.
lots of nice smaller type restaurants and bars around Covent Garden..
My Mum met Lulu once in a sandwich bar, oooh and I saw Jarvis Cocker on the South Bank. ;o)
Joe Allen's in Covent Garden is reputedly a good celeb-spotting restaurant.
Never actually been there myself though!
even when I've occasionally been to the Ivy I've never seen anyone remotely famous. I wouldn't go counting on it. Just do as murraymints says, have a drink or snack at one of the local bars (I'm assuming this is all round the theatreland area) and maybe Brad Pitt will wander in.
I wouldn't recognise today's so called celebrities even if I saw them!! ;o)
Lotties idea is really good there is company that run catamarans up and down the river from Westminster to the O2 with stops at Canary wharf - Tate Modern - London bridge (Borough Market) and others
no fibbing, Lottie, I know you and Brad are lilke *that*...
if you google 'free stuff to do in london' it comes up with some interesting things....walks, museums, markets, etc. i know you didn't specifically ask for cheap or free stuff, the suggestions are just a bit different. we particularly enjoyed a walk along the regents canal from little venice to camden lock and market, the old camden market is really interesting, like being in a different country.
this is a place i always liked, used to be known for actors dropping in as its in covent garden, and near many theatres.
