Sightseeing in London?

I am being treated to a weekend in London this weekend (as I've had a 'special' birthday this week!)
We are going to see the Wizard of Oz and have booked to go on the London Eye........can anyone recommend any other interesting places to visit other than the 'usual' tourist ones?

The Sir John Soanes Museum in Lincolns Fields off Holborn is very interesting and is free. Try to get there by 10am as the queue can be quite long and they only let in so many at a time.
St. Pancras Old Church near St Pancras station is quite interesting especially the graveyard with Hardy`s tree and a number of mausoleums.
To visit go down the road off Euston Road on the left side of the new St Pancras Hotel and turn left at the end. The church is just across the road, look for the clock tower.

The naval monument opposite the Tower of London is very interesting. Added bonus of viewing the Tower.

If you go over Greenwich way, The Royal Observatory is fantastic. What are your interests.

once you've done the london eye, walk along the south bank past the royal festival hall toward waterloo bridge, and take in the street performers...

you could also do a river tour from near the eye..the duck thing..but also just walking down the embankment there with a bit of lunch..try near the tv studio ...people/star watch..usually see someone from gmtv at least !!!

Take a walk along the Thames path, there are signs up, and head towards Blackfriars bridge, you will pass Gabriels wharf, little shops and restaurants, then onto Borough Market, foods and wines lots of nice cakes and breads. There is a pub there called The Market Porter, where you can eat and has some nice beers if into that, they do coffee as well.

The Market Porter is a great pub! However, be warned that on weekend evenings it gets extremely busy and you'll be very lucky indeed to find anywhere to sit.

Markrae....Is it OK at lunchtimes?

It really depends. In the summer it is pretty busy throughout the day. It's worth looking in, though, in case it's quiet. Failing that, you could do a lot worse than The Crown on Blackfriars Road. They usually have three or four real ales on, and do excellent food. If Phil the Kiwi landlord's about, tell him that Mark from the London quiz team sent you... :-)
