depends what you had done. I had gall bladder out with keyhole surgery and took some months to feel remotely right. How long is the flight, if it's a long one would suggest postponing it, or better still consult the doctor and ask this question, as they might consider going soon after surgery isn't an option.

Thanks, the op is tomorrow and i am flying on the 20th june to tenerife...im having gall bladder out also...
You need to keep a check on this, not just the scars, and they do leave them, need time enough to heal properly. And take adequate pain medication, as i found that what they gave me in the hospital wasn't enough.

If sqad is about he might give a better viewpoint. Our resident medic..
good luck..
You must remember that while keyhole surgery means you are likely to recover sooner you will need time to recover from the operation. I had my appendix removed via keyhole and I felt really ill for weeks afterwards.

Good luck with operation and I hope recovery is swify and will enable you to fly.
The minimum time you should give for abdominal or chest surgery is ten days. The scars would be put under pressure by the pressurisation which is why there`s a limit. You`ll be fine as far as flying is concerned by 20th June.

Thanks so much everyone, you have all put my mind at rest..cheers..
You need to make sure that your travel insurance company is happy with this too... just in case.
You may also need a letter from GP to confirm that flying is okay for insurance cover to be valid.
Can I add something else? I had keyhole surgery for a hysterectomy ten days ago and while I was in hospital had to wear beautiful green stockings and was advised to wear them on any long journeys be it plane, car, coach, as DVT is more likely to occur after surgery.
