Which seats to choose on plane.....

Now we do this reserving our seats before we fly i never know which seats to choose! Which ones do you think are the best positioned seats and where abouts on the plane would you choose?

because of mobility problems i would always chose an aisle seat

Not too near a galley or toilets. Aisle seat for me if poss as dont like disturbing people when I want to get up. How important seating is depends on the length of the flight. I have been on longhaul alone, and lucky enough to get a row of four seats in the middle to stretch out on and sleep. Better than being alone in a two at the side.

1. Aisle. If the person in the aisle seat nods off, you can't go to the loo, or get drinks, or anything. Also, you can flex your legs if your knees start to ache. So always go for the aisle seat.

2. Back of the plane. Planes only ever crash going forwards, so you are most likely to survive if you are near the back. Also, you don't have to spend the flight looking at people waiting for the loo. People do wait for the loos at the back of the plane too, but they're behind you, so you can't see them.

Conclusion ... for comfort, reduced risk of death, and not looking at the loos, get aisle seats near the back.

I always like a window seat over the wing (someone once said that statistically, sitting over the wing is the safest place to sit).

I flew Ryan Air last week (they don't prebook seats) and I was fortunate to get seat 19A both ways.

however, it takes half an hour to get out of the plane from the back row, and that's before you hit the immigration queues.

Up front is nice, with the engines behind you so you can't hear them. Or upstairs on a jumbo - bigger luggage compartments.

I think that was the lady at the check in desk, when the only seats they had left were the wing seats.

they might do that in country airports down on the south coast, JJ, but aircraft at the big airports only have one door, front left. All the others are painted on.

When you check in, I think you should be weighed.

Imagine trying to fly straight if all the grossly obese people (or, as they are sometimes called ... "Americans") were sat on the same side of the plane!!
