Overrated landmarks.

For me it was Stonehenge and Edinburgh.

Stonehenge for me too it felt very small and empty...I expected to feel some sort of energy there

Hamburg, Brussels, Paris.

Bruge and Ipres are some of my favourite places in Belgium though. Actually, the whole of the south of Belgium is a write off, and the majority of the north is wonderful.

The Statue of Liberty - it was tiny when I was expecting it to dominate the NY skyline.

Rowan, next time try Avebury, it has more feeling and with silbury hill and the long barrow nearby it is a much more impressive site.

Manneken Pis iun Brussels. Somehow thought it was a large statue, but he's tiny! Love the way they dress him for different occasions though and when I was there he was "pi$$$ng" beer.

The rufus stone. It's a marker of where the metal covered stone used to be of where the tree used to be where William Rufus probably wasn't killed, probably not accidentally.

Seahouses, in Northumberland,you can see everything in 10 minutes.
Angel of the North,too rusty.

I loved Stonehenge, for a real disappointment try Woodhenge just up the road!

Need to so the southwest circuit of pagan sites and ideally the northern isles ones....

You can't just look at a landmark like Stonehenge you have to take a minute to appreciate the effort involved.

It is a stoneage monument i.e. rocks quarried and cut only using stone tools.

The pyramids must just be a heap of stones then!

Lands End - Awful. Second only to Newquay in Cornwall......

When I first went to Stonehenge as a child it was when you could just walk round the stones and touch them and was very atmospheric, vastly different from a few years ago when I went back and it was totally commercialised and out-of-reach.

Hamburg? Really?

I think Hamburg is great - In fact, of the European cities I've been to (Bruge, Amsterdam, Berlin, Budapest, Brno, Prague, Krakow, Warsaw to name a few) I've never been disappointed and they've always lived up to my expectations.

As we are stretching 'landmark' to include cities, can I propose a country?

Landmarks & attractions are nearly all either overrated or exorbitantly expensive; but what else can you do if you want to see a bit of the world ? Best bet is to go for the natural views the world has to offer since it isn't always possible to rip you off for them. Otherwise pay up, be determined to enjoy, and try not to think of the cost.
