Greek island Hopping

How easy is it to find budget accomodation on Greek Islands? We'll be going in August but don't want to book in advance as we don't want to be tied anywhere.  Probably wont be visiting any main tourist islands so if anyone has any recommendations it would be greatly appreciated!

My wife did this before we met. She reckons you practically get mobbed as soon as you get off the boat with generous offers of accommodation at give-away prices. Very very easy and cheap, apparently.

You'll have no problem and will be in the company of loads of back packers all doing the same. As soon as you get off the ferry on each of the islands locals with a spare room and hostel owners will be waiting, often with pictures of their places, ready to whisk you off.

One tip if your shy... definately haggle. it's worth it and you'll nearly always get some money off. More so if you take a look at the place and decide to stay a few days.

just don't be intimidated, and if the place is a dump when you get there there's no obligation for you to take it. Even if the owner has driven you there.
