I pride myself on my culinary skills and this weekend I am hosting a dinner party for a fairly posh couple. (I know, I know, you are asking yourselves why a posh couple are socialising with me). I don't know them particularly well so I texted them to ask if they both like fish as I was thinking of cooking monkfish for the main course. I've just had a text back saying they like fish, but not tinned tuna.
As if I would serve up tinned tuna for a main course. Blooming cheek!

Serve them a tuna tartare instead.
Tinned sardines then....go on I dare you!
that's why i would never ask them their preferences, only if i thought they had an allergy to certain foods. If they don't like what they get, tough..
So now you have your main course, tinned tuna with packet rice.
I like them..........a sense of humour..........should be a good evening.

Have you got any fish forks?..............or perhaps just a tin opener......LOL
Tuna sarnies all round then, he he .
Sardines on toast it is then!. :)

Tempting idea gness
Text them back and ask if they like tinned salmon.
txt back..that's fine..we are having tinned salmon..
Got to be quick around here. :)
Blimey. Revenge of the ABers.
Maybe they actually really don't like tinned tuna but completely understand that a lot of people would use it in, say, a salad - and thought they'd "cover all bases" by mentioning it.
In essence it's the kind of thing I would say with no intention to offend, just a will to answer the question truthfully and completely.

Also, monkfish is pretty much the only thing I won't eat.

Not that I was invited anyway *sniff*
Make us all feel guilty now,Ed. :-(
Go with the monkfish...but remember to leave the head on...

I must be honest my love.......I have never been invited to a dinner party where the hostess has texted the menu to me.

If they had I would have replied in the same "humourous " way.
Maybe they actually bloody love tinned salmon, but barely get given it anywhere they go because everyone it trying to be Nigella Lawson/Jamie Oliver. All they want in life is Salmon from a tin on toast with scrambled eggs and maybe a bit of parsley....
Is that a mistake NoMercy -you've posted a picture of my ex mother in law?
Less of a menu text, more of a "I don't want you to die in my living-room because I once pu a pine nut on my chopping board" type thing.
