I always take one suitcase inside another on the outward journey as I know I am going to buy lots and then check in 2 full cases for the return, have done this with Virgin to Vegas & Miami and also with United to San Francisco, all economy.

Many thanks again for you replies. I did ask a while ago about the size of handcabin suitcase size and had a couple of indignant replies so I was almost not going to ask this question. It is nice when someone can be helpful to question that are asked and not rude.
