Good evening
We stayed in Karlsruhe on Sunday in the Acora hotel on Sophienstrasse

When we arrived there was furniture, wrecked and intact, piled up on every street corner with people poking around in it and taking away bits and pieces

When we left on Monday morning it seemed like every dust cart in the city was in the street clearing it all

Does anyone know what it was, is it a regular organised thing or just some spontaneous clearout?

Thanks in advance

That was quick, I never thought of using Toytowngermany, we thought we'd booked a hotel in Bumtown
Thanks rockyracoon
Your welcome Barks.
What a good idea. Not so much going to land fill then. In the quite recent past I have found it very difficult to give away things. Are people so affluent that they do not need free stuff?
I know this happens regularly in Amsterdam and folk have been known to furnish a flat on other folks thrown away stuff
We saw this happen in Bonn recently too.
When we lived in Germany, Bulk Rubbish collections were, I think, monthly and were very useful, though I don't recall a freeforall happening, maybe our rubbish was just that, rubbish!
My daughter said they had a similar thing when she lived in Prague, makes good sense,

Thanks to everyone who took the time to reply
I think it's a great idea which is probably why we don't do it in UK where the thinking seems to be to make it hard or expensive for people to get rid of stuff and then act surprised when it gets fly tipped in a beauty-spot
Another reason to love Germany, The Netherlands and the Czech Rep.
