What do you put in your suitcase?

Hi, I am off on holiday to Barbados on Thursday (only booked it yesterday) and am having a total panic about forgetting to pack things things, what essentials do you pack when you go away?

My first concern is washstuff, any medication and a couple of things to read on holiday - so at least a book and a magazing IN the suitcase, mind you I don't usually get round to reading them!

Washstuff and underwear.  I always pack at least one change of clothing in my hand luggage and always pack my washstuff, medications in hand luggage as well in case my suitcase goes missing.  I learned the hard way - my case disappeared for a week once. 

For the same reason if going on holiday with someone else it is a good idea if using two suitcases to pack clothing for both of you in both suitcases!

However, as my husband has reminded me on loads of occasions, there are shops in other countries so you can always buy what you forget - unless you are going to a desert island.

Just don't forget your passport and have a wonderful time.

All you really need is a passport, credit card and any medication required to keep you going.  Everything else is negotiable.

Don't forget your sunglasses, toothbruth, some plasters, your camera, passport, and don't forget to have a good time!

Toiletries : deo, aftershave, toothbrush/paste, shampoo, shower gel/soap, sun lotion (and sunglasses) etc.
Electrical gadgets like hairdryer/shaver, mobile, charger and any converters needed.
clothes, underwear
books - I'd always opt for books rather than magazines.
Travel guide/city guide
CD player & CDs. Or mp3 player.
Maybe even some favourite foods from here than you can't live without : tea bags and biscuits or something?

All documents (travel insurance, visa) and passport.
Wallet, cash, cards.

The idea of packing each suitcase with both his n hers clothes is a great idea.
