I have booked a hotel only via Thomas Cooks web site. On looking at the confirmation voucher, the company Hotels4u are part of the Thomas Cook group but are not ABTA members. Is this common. I guess if Hotels4u go t*ts up I cant get compensation and Thomas Cook will get a lot of flak,which they dont need at the moment.

I think ABTA only cover package holidays, if Hotels4u have only supplied accomodation then they woudn't be bonded by ABTA. I think that's how it works ;)

You don't have a contract with Hotels4U anyway.

So, for example, if the hotel is half-built, over-booked, over-run by rats, and lacking all of the facilities you expected, you can only pursue the hotel operator for compensation, not Hotels4U.

If you've paid with a credit card, or a visa debit card, you should have some kind of cover with that
