Norwich, Bristol Or Exeter.
Which of the above places do I choose for a long weekend in April? BTW, I've never been to these cities.

Norwich has more of the feel of a small town than Bristol has, and has attractions; it has a mustard museum for goodness sake! The market is large and has been there since the year dot, Norwich castle looms over all, the cathedral is fine; it's easy to imagine how it all was 900 years ago. But anyone thinking it still has a pub for every day and a church for every week, will be disappointed and the place is hardly exciting in terms of nightlife.
Don't rule out Norwich!
Much as we Ipswich folk (who have an intense rivalry with people from Norwich) hate to admit it, Norwich is actually rather a nice place.
As has been mentioned, it's got a good market (which is incredibly cheap; there aren't may places where you can get tea or coffee for 50p these days!). It's got plenty of shops, which include lots of small independent ones as well as the big names that you see everywhere else. It's packed with history and their are plenty of good restaurants and pubs.
Fred mentions a lack of nightlife. That might we'll be true if you're into clubbing (although the riverside developments, close to the rail station, seem to offer plenty for younger people to do) but Norwich has some of the best theatres in the country.
Norwich is also a great base for exploring, with the North Norfolk coast and some lovely little market towns all close by. (If you fancy a drink or two while out on your travels, go by train. A day's unlimited rail travel, throughout the whole area, costs £16 with an Anglia Plus ticket, which will take you to places like Ipswich or Cambridge, or out to the coast).

Yes, yes, yes come to Norwich. We have :-
Culture - great theatres, arts galleries and arhcitecture.
Heritage - a beautiful castle, 2 cathedrals, and several museums
Shopping - Independent shops in The Lanes, 2 shopping malls, a large central shooping area and a daily market
River and open spaces - Punting on the river, a riverside walk and a heath with panoramic views over the city.
Pubs - Not one for everyday anymore but still plenty. A pub crawl around the real ale houses is a day out in itself!
Clubs - loads if you're into clubbing
Days out - The Norfolk Broads are beautiful in April, as is the North Norfolk coast, or the villages of north Suffolk ( a nod to Chris there) or Ely,Newmarket or Cambridge to the west .
No contest, come to Norwich!
