I have heard about a walk that starts in France and goes through other countries. You have a guide book and a list of participating hostels etc. The book gets stamped (or something like that) each place you visit.

Anyone know the name of the walk?

is something like Whiff or Woof I think

Is it the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostella ?
That is called the Camino.
Traditionally it starts in St Jean pied de port, crosses the Pyrenees, and continues to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Western Spain. It's about 800km in total distance.
I've walked the first 112 km, twice, and the last 100km. Someday I hope to return and do the entire thing in one go.
There is a film out called "The Way" staring Martin Sheen and his son Emilio Estervez. About his sons desire to walk "The Camino" but fails, and his fathers wish to complete it for him. A bit of useless info.

Thanks guys - that must be the one!!

The walk can be much longer than that highlighted above, in that there were five French towns/cities traditionally associated as starting points for pilgrims to walk through France before joining up to the common route that runs through northern Spain. These places are Paris, Vézelay, Arles, Le Puy and Cluny.
