I just tried to send someone a message on Facebook and it said it would cost 70p to send it? It won't let me send it unless I pay 70p? I am not in the country at the moment could that be the reason?

Is the someone a 'friend'?
Apparently there are now charges to send messages to people who are not your FB friends.
There are new charges apparently for messages outside friends..

No it's just someone I met yesterday. I didn't want to add them as a friend though. I can't believe I have to pay nearly a pound to send someone a message!
What country are you in?
There is now a fee for emailing celebrities that you are not friends with apparently... news story here

I think it's a good thing - stops strangers spamming people.

Egypt. Lol they're not a celebrity.
The fees range from 70p to £10 depending on the celebrity status of the recipient.
£10 a cleb, 70p a pleb. :D

Aww a phleb? yeah that's about right. 68p to be exact.
Reading the article linked to by slaney, it would seem that neither Facebook nor a number of its users have heard of e-mail, which allows you to send messages to people who are not in your friends list for free.
You need the email address to do that, Rojash.

Is that info available willy nilly on FB?

No, hc4361, but then again, you need to know their FB name to send them a message on FB.

MadMen says she met the person the day before, so they could easily have exchanged contact details.

Thanks for the responses. Sorry I couldn't reply, my phone went all gay and lost it's signal. Meh.
Anyway, I had no email address, I'm afraid. It was someone I met that worked at the place I was. He said "I'm on Facebook, my name is....*and wrote it down*" That was that". Found him, came up with the whole "it will cost you £ to send this person a message"....

Anyway, I left soon after....

Thanks anyway :-)
