Need some ideas for the places to visit preferably near campsites. Anywhere with nice sceneries and drive, bit of history etc.

it depends on how yr getting around, how much time yr going to spend, and how far north yr willing to go. I remember using a mtb bike and scotrail, and going to arran island, the orkneys and shetlands. I went wild camping, which i beleive it totally legal, and had a great time.

Thanks for the replies so far. Piggy, We would be travelling in my seven seater Sharan, 4 people, My brother and I (both male in 40s), and my two sons both teenagers. We have no experience of camping of whatsoever apart from one of my son who has been a couple of times with his school (and that is the best bit as we are willing and ready for any kind of experience). And we have no plan either that how far we would go. I love driving and would go as far as I could. Life wih no limits. Wild camping is a good idea but bit daunting.
Glen Nevis campsite (at the foot of Ben Nevis) is very useful, for obvious reasons. It's the only campsite I've stayed on in Scotland afair.
How about joining this? Lots of ideas, suggestions and help there.

Don't know about campsites, but I would always recommend this coastal region. I love going up to Bamburgh castle.
