and needs to get to Aylesbury - she is planning on taking a taxi - how much roughly would this cost and is there any alternative?

any rail journey would involve travelling into london; any bus or coach journey will involve at least one change. travel time up to 2 hours or more.
Train is cheaper but more messing about, especially with baggage

Thanks - didn't think it would be cheap. Will try to get someone to pick her up and take her back.
You could try asking one of your local taxi firms if they happen to be taking a fare to Heathrow around that time, and would like a pasenger for the return journey instead of coming back empty. Long shot, maybe, but not impossible.
