Stop-Over From Scotland To London

If you were travelling home from Scotland to London where would be a nice place to stop over for the night? Route would be A1/M1 or M6.

Depends on your departure point. If you're doing the A/M74 and M6 route then I would suggest somewhere north of Birmingham. On the other hand, if you're travelling the A/M1 route, then perhaps Newark/Grantham.

M74/M6/A66.

Stop somewhere along the A66 in the Pennines, there are loads of delightful pubs and small hotels there, then get to the A1 at Scotch Corner.

Stone is quite good as you can get into the 'town' through a back gate from the services.

My daughter does this trip regularly and likes to stop here - Tebay - it does depend where in Scotland you are coming from though.

Five adults and two small children travelling in two cars from Pitlochry to Dartford. Would like to get over half way on first day.

A Travel lodge or similar would be fine. Can't afford a 5* hotel.

Hi Derekpara, you don't say when you're travelling, but there's a Travelodge at a place called Uppingham Morcott, just 8 miles off the A1 at Stamford, Lincs for £28 per room per night in the week after next. That the sort of thing you're looking for?

The Dalesman at Sedbergh (5 miles from near the Killington services - turn for Kendal but t'other way into God's own country) - about 50 a night for a room.....good food, small menu, and the famous rugby and x-country running school and town to wander around - the Hay-on-Wye of the north of England when it comes to bookshops.
