where can i use something on the internet of the style of digimap or something similar to find out the location of things?

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but you could try Google Earth:

Or if it's more conventional mapping that you're looking for, try http://www.streetmap.co.uk/ or http://www.multimap.com/ which has international maps.

Google Earth is fab though!
